I am a registered nurse and have worked in the primary care/community/UEC setting for the past 25 years. Prior to that I was a critical care nurse for several years after qualifying as an RGN in 1991. My professional background is varied and I have experience as a nurse advisor in the early days of NHS Direct, I was a diabetes patient education facilitator, and a practice nurse. I completed my MSc ACP and continued working out of hospital in varied community settings and eventually moved into education in 2021. Initially I was a lecturer with the undergraduate team (BSc Nursing) and then moved to postgraduate and eventually became programme lead for MSc ACP (apprenticeship) at the University of Derby. In 2024, I moved to DHU Healthcare as professional practice development manager, leading the advanced clinical training team, and involved in strategic leadership of advanced practice at a corporate level. I am actively involved with the Derbyshire Faculty for Advancing Practice and am passionate about the role of advanced practitioners in delivering high quality patient care. I am interested in palliative and end of life care and diabetes care. Outside of work I lead an active life with many interests including music, and walking with my dogs.
